Highway 44 - Summit Juniper

This tree is located on State Highway 44 between
Susanville in Lassen County, and Old Station in Shasta County.
According to a sign that used to be in front of the tree,
on July 6, 1959, the tree was measured and found to be:

Circumference 16 feet 7 inches
Diameter 5 feet 3 inches
Height 45 feet
Approximate Age 630 years



The tree was measured on October 1, 2001,
by Ed Mincher science instructor.
The new measurements, 42 years later, are:

Circumference measured four feet above the ground 17 feet 6 inches
Diameter 5 feet 7 inches
Height 44 feet 1 inch
Circumference of the base 23 feet 6 inches
Height to the first branch 6 feet
Current age as of November 22, 2009 680 years, 4 months
